How to watch Crunchyroll anime with subtitles in your language

Crunchyroll’s subtitles cover a handful of languages. If you read Turkish, Hindi, Dutch, or another language Crunchyroll doesn’t offer, the choice is usually English subtitles or nothing. Echo Captions takes the episode’s official subtitle track, translates it into your language, and shows it in place of the built-in one — same timing, your words.

How it works on Crunchyroll

Unlike a live stream, a Crunchyroll episode already has professional subtitles. So Echo doesn’t transcribe the audio here: it reads the official subtitle track, translates each line, and hides the original so only your language is on screen. Because it works from the same track, the timing is exact. If you’d rather see both, dual-language mode keeps the original subtitle above the translation.

Set-up

   Add it from the Chrome Web Store — free, no account needed for the first try.

   Open an episode on crunchyroll.com

   In the browser. A browser extension can’t reach the Crunchyroll apps on phones or TVs.

   Click the Echo button in the player

   One click starts the translation for that episode.

   Pick your language

   Echo detects it from your browser; the popup lets you change it. 14 languages are available.

   Adjust the look, if you like

   Font, size, background opacity and position have their own settings for Crunchyroll, separate from YouTube and live streams, with a live preview.

Learning a language while you watch

Turn on language-learning mode in the popup and Echo adds vocabulary hints and short explanations next to the translation instead of a flat rendering. With dual-language mode on as well, you see the original subtitle, the translation, and the hints together.

Good to know
