How to watch Crunchyroll anime with subtitles in your language
Crunchyroll’s subtitles cover a handful of languages. If you read Turkish, Hindi, Dutch, or another language Crunchyroll doesn’t offer, the choice is usually English subtitles or nothing. Echo Captions takes the episode’s official English subtitle track, translates it into your language, and shows it in place of the built-in one — same timing, your words.
How it works on Crunchyroll
Unlike a live stream, a Crunchyroll episode already has professional subtitles. So Echo doesn’t transcribe the audio here: it reads the official English subtitle track, translates each line, and hides Crunchyroll’s own subtitles. Because it works from the same track, the timing is exact. The original line stays above the translation; turn off Show original line in the popup if you only want your language on screen.

Add it from the Chrome Web Store — free, no account needed for the first try.

Open an episode on crunchyroll.com
In the browser. A browser extension can’t reach the Crunchyroll apps on phones or TVs.

Press play
The translation starts by itself while Echo is on. The Echo button in the player opens Echo’s settings.

Pick your language
Echo detects it from your browser; the popup lets you change it. 81 languages are available.

Adjust the look, if you like
Font, size, background opacity and position have their own settings for Crunchyroll, separate from YouTube and live streams, with a live preview.
Good to know
- —Free to start: about 4 minutes of video a day as a guest, and about 20 minutes on your first day — enough to see it work on an episode. Signed-in free accounts get about 8 minutes; Echo Lite ($1.99 a month) covers about 1 hour of video a day.
- —Echo translates the episode’s official English subtitles into your language, or another official track if there are no English ones. If an episode has no subtitles in any language, there is nothing to translate.
